Sonata ~ Ambien Lite

Oh, boy, sleep! That's where I'm a viking! In my never ending quest for a good night’s sleep, (something that has been elusive in the last 6 months, wait make that year and a half… the last 6 months have just really sucked…) I have discovered Sonata. A little pill that allows me to become a viking. It is a fast acting sleep-aid that is in and out of your system in 3 hours and allows you to completely turn off your brain.

Travis is a particular fan, as it significantly decreases my loud and occasionally disturbing snoring. I am currently in the process of weening myself off of it, but as a good Alien I had to share my experience with others.

Spicy Chai (Kava) at Shalimar on the Ave in Seattle

What Kai calls the Darjeeling Unlimited (because it’s darjeeling tea and there are free refills)–it’s apple cider without the apples. I could drink it all day when it’s snowing outside.

Sheese!

Bute Sheese

“It’s Sheese!” — Susan

While vacationing through Scotland, Susan and I spent a day in Inverness, the gateway to Loch Ness. We had left a note with Gary, of Ardgary B&B, along the lines of “We happen to be vegan, if that’s convenient for you.” Upon our arrival at their establishment, Gary showered us with delicious Scottish morsels and boisterous traveler’s tales, as we slowly dried off from having backpacked through a torrential downpour.

One of those morsels was none other than Bute Cheese. (Bute is pronounced more like “boot” than “butt”.) Bute cheese comes from the nearby Isle of Bute. Gary was good to us, and he was kind enough to pack some extra in a sack lunch for us when we had to catch our bus to Urqhart Castle the next morning.

Then I discovered the other day that this stuff isn’t just a Scottish thing, like Irn-Bru. Stinky cheese is back, vegans.

Reeses Banana Cream Peanut Butter Cups (aka Elvis Treats)

“Elvis treats!!!” –Susan

Oh, mmm, so good. I was skeptical at first… they sound kind of gross. But these are the best thing to come out of junk food in years! I think they’re limited edition, though, so eat up now.

As an added bonus, every package has a picture of Elvis on the cover so you can think about how bad for you the food you are eating is and how it can lead to a bloated death on the toilet. Yay.

But they are good tasting. They’re very very good tasting.

Godiva Chocoiste Milk Chocolate Pearls

“Chocolate in pill form.” –Susan

Godiva Chocoiste Pearls come in a convenient medicine-cabinet-ready sized tin which pops open in a very satisfying way. You can pour two or three of the pea sized balls of pure chocolate out into your hand and because it’s Godiva, three little balls goes a long way. I keep a tin on my desk at work next to my migraine pills and just take them interchangeably throughout the work day. Five thumbs way up.
