While vacationing through Scotland, Susan and I spent a day in Inverness, the gateway to Loch Ness. We had left a note with Gary, of Ardgary B&B, along the lines of “We happen to be vegan, if that’s convenient for you.” Upon our arrival at their establishment, Gary showered us with delicious Scottish morsels and boisterous traveler’s tales, as we slowly dried off from having backpacked through a torrential downpour.
One of those morsels was none other than Bute Cheese. (Bute is pronounced more like “boot” than “butt”.) Bute cheese comes from the nearby Isle of Bute. Gary was good to us, and he was kind enough to pack some extra in a sack lunch for us when we had to catch our bus to Urqhart Castle the next morning.
Then I discovered the other day that this stuff isn’t just a Scottish thing, like Irn-Bru. Stinky cheese is back, vegans.

Sheese was not bad–considering I don’t like cheese and I really hate soy cheese. I was able to down two whole slices without throwing up in the interest of polite guestness.
